About Us
My name is Nathan Sarma, and I am a High School Junior in Michigan, USA.
In 2019, on a trip to India to visit extended family, I became acquainted with the son of a watch guard for our building. He was fascinated with how well I spoke English. A skill that we here in the USA take for granted. I spent a few hours a day helping him communicate better in English, for which he was grateful. I continued communicating with him once a week after returning to the US. When the pandemic and lockdowns began in early 2020, my continued tutoring turned into an entire English course to help him get ahead and stay ahead on English skills. The remote teaching expanded to include other students over the years, and presently, I have over 100 students who attend my remote course in English.
Today, I am working to add more volunteers to ensure that an ever-increasing number of students get the support not just in English language skills but general support and resources to enable them to reach their educational goals. We have raised donations to fund plane tickets for students traveling abroad and funneled donated laptops to those in need.
I have started BrightStart Initiative to positively impacting the lives of children and families by providing educational resources and support across geographical across geographical barriers.
